Frequently Asked Question's
1. What theater courses require an audition?
NHS Theater has courses available for every student's experience level and theatrical interests.
Drama 2 requires the student has previously taken Drama 1, or has received permission from Ms. Amanda for placement in this class.
Technical Theater courses have an application process, for more information on Stagecraft and Technical Theater opportunities, contact Mr. Watkins at [email protected]
2. How do I know what each theater course offers and which class is right for me?
To learn about our specific course offerings visit the Dramatic Arts and Technical Theater pages on this website, or the NHS Course Handbook! After reading the course descriptions, if you still have questions about which theater class you should register for, email Ms. Amanda at [email protected]
3. How many times can I take Drama 1, 2, & Advanced?
As many as you like! Students are welcome to repeat any level of drama as many times as they can possibly make work!
4.Do I have to be in a Drama class to audition for NHS Theater's Mainstage Productions?
No! All extracurricular theater opportunities are open to all NHS students to audition for.
5. What are the performance opportunities with NHS Theater?
There are many, many opportunities to perform with NHS Theater. Every theater course works toward a production over the course of the semester.
Students in our thespian troupe, #3384 prepare their own individual performances for competition.
AND all NHS students are welcomed to audition for our biyearly extracurricular Main Stage productions: Fall Play and Spring Musical.
6. Are there extracurricular theater offerings that do not require an audition?
YES! NHS Theater Leadership Team organizes and leads many events throughout the school year. It is a GREAT way to make friends, improve your skills in all areas of theater and build your confidence! Follow our Instagram page @niwot.theater for dates and locations of these events.
7. Can I run track, or play basketball and still audition for a show with NHS Theater?
YES! Niwot strives to work with all students to provide them the most opportunities as possible!
7. Can I be in Orchestra, Band, Choir and Theater all at the same time?
Yes! Many students in the theater program are also members of our Choral or Band program! The more performing arts courses you can take, the merrier!
8. Does NHS Theater attend and compete at THESCON?
Yes! We have a very active and talented Thespian Honor Troupe, #3384! Each year we attend and compete at the Colorado State Thespian Conference and we also provide students the opportunity to attend and/or compete (if they qualify) at International Thespian Festival.
* Students must be registered in Advanced Drama, Musical Theater or Drama 2 to compete with our Thespian Troupe.
